TNT, known chemically as 2-4-6 trinitrotoluene or 2-methyl-1,3,5-trinitrobenzene has a cyclic aromatic hydrocarbon molecular structure. It consists of a benzene ring with one methyl group, aka toluene plus 3 nitro groups. This compound is highly energetic & known for explosive properties attributed to the nitro groups. It found use originally in navel artillery shells in 1902.
