Oxytocin (Pitocin)

Construct a 3D molecule model of the hormone Oxytocin (Pitocin) from Genuine Molymod Model Parts by Indigo.

Oxytocin is cyclic protein consisting of nine amino acids in the sequence Cysteine-Tyrosine-Isoleucine-Glutamine-Asparagine-Cysteine-Proline-Leucine-Glycine-NH2 (CYIQNCPLG-NH2). The disulfide bond between two cysteine residues give its stable ring-like structure. As a small hydrophilic peptide, it readily circulates in the bloodstream where it plays a role in areas relating to reproduction including lactation & maternal bonding.

An important metabolic effect involves energy balance by affecting food and energy expenditure which helps regulate body weight. Oxytocin inhibits the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis which reduces stress and anxiety. At the cardiovascular level it improves vasodilation and protects against inflammation.

A molecular model of Oxytocin in the Molymod Hybrid Dome style uses the atoms & bonds in the parts list below. Our free 3D Molecular Model Builder shows other styles & allows for image rotation as an assembly guide.
