What is PABA?

PABA, (aka para amino benzoic acid) is the primary ingredient in sunscreen lotions. Its alternating single and double bonds are similar to melanine, the natural sunblock pigment produced in skin. Melanine production is stimulated by the sun's ultraviolet rays to prevent sunburn. PABA, in high enough concentration can prevent UV rays from reaching the skin
