Pantoprazole (Protonix)

Make a 3D molecule structure model of Pantoprazole (Protonix) out of Genuine Molymod Model Parts by indigoinstruments.com

Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) drug that belongs to the benzimidazole chemical class. Its difluoromethoxy and [(3,4-dimethoxypyridin-2-yl)methyl]sulfinyl groups attached to the base structure ultimately classify it as a pyridine, aromatic ether, organofluorine & sulfoxide compound.

It is commonly prescribed to treat various gastrointestinal conditions. Pantoprazole's mechanism of action is inhibition of the hydrogen-potassium ATPase enzyme (proton pump) in the stomach lining. Its chief medical use is reducing the production of excess stomach acid which in turn limits or prevents the formation gastric and duodenal ulcers.
