Sterile Petri dishes are fundamental tools in both bacteriology & mycology. Whether you are at home or run a small business, they can provide a clean environment for mushroom cultivation while observing the development of mushroom fruiting bodies.
Use malt extract, potato dextrose or your own favorite agar recipe as a growth medium. If agar is unavailable, gelatin can be subsitituted & combined with nutrients including meat broth or yeast extract or malt to promote mycelial growth.
These plastic dishes are already sterilized & not recommended for use with pressure cookers. Home growers can use one to prepare the agar mixture in an autoclavable Erlenmeyer flask or glass mason jar.
Grow blue oyster mushrooms, Lions Mane (Hericium erinaceous) or fungal cultures with confidence. Use Petri dishes for your spore solutions whether you use potato dextrose agar, or black agar as your agar medium to grow a healthy mycelium. Experiment with new strains using rye grain in liquid culture media.
Plastic petri dishes are by their nature, disposable. However, some types are extremely flimsy. Ours are 1.1-1.2mm thick & weigh ~16g each which can be as much as double as the cheaper ones.

Fantastic products!
My purchase, the packaging, and delivery were great. This was my first attempt with germinating "old" seeds in the dishes. I had productive results. The dishes were well worth the cost and investment of my time.
Plates were sterile and well packaged. Shipment came within a week and was few dollars cheaper than Amazon even with shipping. Will definitely be back to buy more soon.
You can a general culture medium that will should support common bacteria & molds using the following instructions: Homemade Microbial Media. Or, you can try some of these nutrient agar recipes.
A regular stove top pressure cooker or Instant Pot can be used as an autoclave to sterilize glass Petri dishes but not plastic petri dishes which are already sterilized & will melt if pressure cooked. However, if you wash & then rinse them with a mild disinfectant solution, you may be able to reuse them. We offer 0-200ppm chlorine test strips & 0-100ppm hydrogen peroxide test strips that can confirm rinse strength concentration after dilution.
Planting seeds & discovering too late they aren't viable. Glad this is a useful solution to prevent that.
