A version of the Indigo® Big Bang Theory DNA Model has been assembled into the world's longest accurate DNA molecular model. The Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam, Netherlands, wanted an eyecatcher for a medical conference they were hosting. Built from 6 models of 36 base pairs each, its combined 216 base pairs make it roughly 11 metres long.

Originally intended to be the world's tallest accurate model, the people in charge of Health & Safety determined the hanging version would be a health hazard. So, it has to settle for longest instead.

Death by DNA model in a medical centre would certainly have been ironic.

This "anatomically correct" DNA double helix model shouldn't be confused with poor copies you might encounter elsewhere on-line. Special modifications were needed to make the major & minor grooves as accurate as possible. The difference between the two is subtle but you can see this clearly in a stereo image of the Indigo® Big Bang Theory DNA Model.
