Chitin is biopolymer that is an integral part of arthropod (insect & crustacean) exoskeletons and cell walls of fungi. As a polysaccharide, it is second only to cellulose in terms of annual biomass production. While this model kit is intended mainly for building important mono & disaccharides, chitin, which is composed of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, is only slightly different from cellulose & may be of interest for comparison.
Note: This kit includes the extra parts needed to display this structure with flattened rings in the Orbit X-peg style. This is to make it compatible with other biomolecules such as our Orbit amino acid kit & 12 base pair DNA model.
Indigo Instruments has maintained a substantial inventory of genuine Cochranes of Oxford (Orbit) parts for 30+ years (scroll down to see "Skeletal (Orbit/Minit) and are compatible with every molecular model kit we have sold since day 1. This level of quality may appear expensive but no parts support from other vendors costs even more.
