Docosahexaenoic acid is a 22:6 carbon polyunsaturated omega 3 fatty acid. It consists of a 21 carbon aliphatic (alkene) portion which has six cis-double bonds at positions 4, 7, 10, 13, 16 and 19 and a carboxylic acid functional group. Humans can convert alpha-linolenic acid into DHA which plays a structural role in the brain's cerebral cortex, skin, and retina.

Indigo Instruments has maintained a substantial inventory of genuine Cochranes of Oxford (Orbit) parts for 30+ years and are compatible with every molecular model kit we have sold. This level of quality may appear expensive but no parts support from other vendors costs even more.

Use our 3D Molecular Model Builder in Orbit-flexible mode to view the docosahexaenoic acid structural version shown at the top in the image & build with the parts in this kit. This version can also be built with our 68827W organic chemistry student set & 68847W organic chemistry class set. Note that our Model Builder is indicating use of 50mm bonds for C=C but there are enough 35mm bonds in both sets & they are more representative of scale.

The version below it, is done as Orbit x-peg and would need extra parts (too many to be practical) or use our 68849W biochemistry class molecular model set.
