 This is a model water-ice, a molecule essential to life as we know it, hockey & single malt scotch. The ice molecule model kit comes with 198 atoms and 264 wobbly™ bonds and can be built & disassembled repeatedly. The shape pictured in the image is arbitrary and was chosen mainly because it is visually pleasing & the instructions are easier to follow. Any shape that uses the same basic cage structure is correct.
