Methionine is an essential amino acid must be obtained from dietary sources. The kit includes 2 sulfur atoms to allow you to compare L methionine (more important biologically) to D methionine. Methionine has a non polar R group. Methionine's is a nonpolar, aliphatic amino acid with a thioether functional group. Its side chain is moderately hydrophobic properties which influences how it contributes to protein folding and stability.
One of methionine's metabolic roles is donating its methyl group donor in methylation reactions via S-adenosylmethionine (SM) which regulates gene expression, DNA repair, and protein modification.
Indigo Instruments has maintained a substantial inventory of genuine Cochranes of Oxford (Orbit) parts for 30+ years and are compatible with every molecular model kit we have sold. This level of quality may appear expensive but no parts support from other vendors costs even more.
This amino acid is built in "Orbit x-peg" style & is compatible with our 12 base pair DNA & alpha helix models & Class Biochemistry Set 68849W. You can use the Indigo® 3D Molecular Model Builder to build this amino acid or any other organic compound in styles compatible with our Foundation Student Organic Set 68845NV or Advanced Student Organic Chemistry Set 68827W.
