Stearic acid is an 18 carbon saturated fatty acid with a lipid number of 18:0. It consists of a 17 carbon straight chain aliphatic portion (alkane) and a carboxylic acid functional group. It is found in candles & wax and also used as lubricant, food additive and soaps.
