Optional "x-pegs" fit holes in trigonal and linear carbon atoms to depict double & triple bonds differently from the standard parts included in this set. This style produces flattened structures such as the purine & pyrimidine nucleotides in our 12 base pair DNA model.
The model on the left is benzene which requires 5 extra sp2 trigonal carbons (1 comes with the set) & 6 optional x-pegs. The double bonds are 20mm long while the single bonds are 30mm. Immediately to the right is ethene which uses 2 sp2 carbons, 4 x-pegs & 2 20mm bonds.
The upper right model is ethyne which requires an additional 180o linear carbon (1 comes with the set), 4 x-pegs & 3 20mm bonds.
Indigo Instruments has maintained a substantial inventory of genuine Cochranes of Oxford (Orbit) atoms & bonds for over 30 years. These parts are compatible with every student & teacher molecular model set we have sold since day 1. This level of quality may appear expensive but no parts support from other vendors costs even more.
Every Orbit molecular model set sold by Indigo Instruments is fully compatible with others you might own, no matter how old. You can replenish any set or customize it with Genuine Cochranes of Oxford Orbit Parts.
I've had consistently great service from this company. Our students seem to really appreciate the reasonable price. In the years that we've used this product, not one has been returned due to defects.
Considering how many of these we sell to schools every year, that is high praise indeed. Thanks letting us know.
