PAA is a strongly oxidizing, colorless liquid with a pungent odor similar to vinegar and is a highly effective bacteriocide. PAA's have demonstrated disinfection efficiency in removing human health pathogens from municipal waste water. While it has no harmful breakdown products, Indigo® brand test strips are useful for in situ measuring PAA decay from concentrated to residual PAA concentrations in the 0-50ppm range.
PAA is also used for spray washing in the food processing industry. Wet the test strip pad with distilled or deionized water (if available) & press against the skin of the fruit, vegetable or poultry in question. If any residual peracetic acid is present, the color of the test pad will change immediately. Compare this to the color chart on the bottle.
All Indigo® peracetic acid test strips have a 3 year minimum guaranteed shelf life & come with a Certificate of Analysis, Stability & SDS documents listed below; Certificate of Conformance on request. Be prepared for any health & safety audit or inspection.
You can compare the chemical structures of peracetic acid (aka peroxyacetic acid), chemical formula C2H4O3, to acetic acid, hydrogen peroxide & N-N-diethyl–p-phenylenediamine using our 3D Molecular Model Builder.
